We go to school for 18 weeks (per semester) and semester tests
tell us that 3.6 of those weeks don't matter. Semester tests are setup
for you to fail. If in quarter 1 you get a 92%, quarter 2 you get a
91%, and on your semester test you get a 80% your final grade would be
89%. Now, lets say, for example, your test is a 100 questions, you
missed 20 obscure questions, is that fair that a few questions can be
more important then the countless tests and homework assignments that
you did in the previous 2 quarters.
Semester tests
are also an outdated system because of standard based grading is wave
of the "future" and semester tests, I would argue that they don't work
well together.
